Service Trip in El Menya with The Good Shepherd and Mother of Light Group

Following last year's touching service trip to El Menya, another trip was planned for people of all ages across England to join The Good Shepherd and Mother of Light service in El Menya in July, 2009.

Training Day for Anglican Clergy at The Coptic Centre

On Thursday 21 May 2009, a training day was conducted at The Coptic Orthodox Church Centre in Stevenage for Anglican clergy of the Diocese of Saint Albans. The aim of the day, which was attended by about 40 Anglican ministers, was to present the Theology and Christology of the Oriental Orthodox Family of Churches so as to address the misunderstanding of Monophysite Theology.

It was going to be a cold and wet weekend, we all knew it; but we also knew that we had no expectations, we just thought we would go out and enjoy ourselves, to play as a team and to do our best!

Mens' COFTA Tournament 2008The COFTA 2008 tournament kicked off with the reigning champions, St. Mary and Archangel Michael (Golders Green), vs the hosts St. George (Stevenage). With Sami captaining and managing the side, and Mike Shenouda and George Farah as assistants, the team stepped onto the pitch with a different line-up to the one we are all used to!

St. George's Consecration

Four years ago, the beautiful Cathedral of Saint George began its’ journey and the foundation stone was laid in the hope and promise of a vibrant future, and a year and a half on from its’ Inauguration in September 2006, the Cathedral was once again at the centre of a joyful day and a momentous event- a holy consecration by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III.

It had been a long wait and the masses gathered; the modern Cathedral steeped in history welcomed some eighty dignitaries from around the United Kingdom: heads and representatives of Churches from around the world, as well as the Ambassador of Egypt, and even letters from the Her Majesty the Queen and the Prime Minister Gordon Brown were received.

Art and Film Awards Night 2007

Once all the guests had arrived, and the doors to the cathedral hall were opened, they took their seats at the beautifully presented tables, taking in the ambiance, set for a night of true exuberance. With everyone gathered together, the evening began with a prayer, led by His Grace Bishop Angaelos, and our honoured guest Bishop Youssef, the Coptic bishop of Bolivia.

Youth Day Trip to Brighton

It was an early start at 11am when the youth began to appear at the site of St. Mary and St. Abraam Chruch, Brighton. H.G. Bishop Angaelos arrived shortly after, leading everyone into the church for the Prayer of Thanksgiving, during which we desperately hoped for a blessed day; and as always, our heavenly Father didn’t let us down. Abouna Youhanna and Abouna Menassa welcomed the youth of the other churches and Abouna Shenouda who also accompanied them.

The Very Reverend Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

On Friday 7 May, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop VisitThe Very Reverend Dr. Rowan Williams visited the Centre at the invitation of His Grace Bishop Angaelos, and was welcomed thee by His Grace and members of the Coptic Clergy and community; also sharing in this historic event were many dignitaries representing ecumenical, political and social strands of the local and national community.
