Archangel Michael and Saint Anthony Coptic Orthodox Church provide a variety of spiritual, social and community services.
In the early days of the new Centre, visiting priests were invited to perform liturgical services each Saturday, but in December 1995, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III appointed his own secretary as the first priest specifically dedicated to the service of this Church and Centre. Since the arrival of a permanent priest, in 1995, the church the spiritual and social activity of the Centre has grown.
With the arrival of a permanent priest, the church has taken a more active role in the community of Stevenage. The church also serves as a local Parish covering Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, North London, Cambridge and other surrounding areas.
Spiritual services of the church include Liturgy four times a week on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday morning and Saturday. There are also regular Sunday School classes and weekly bible studies for the adults and youth of the congregation on both Saturday and Sunday. In addition, there are weekly servants training meetings and service meetings that arrange the schedule of curriculum to be covered in the upcoming weeks.
The Centre provides a variety of classes to meet the spiritual needs of all our youth.
Bible Studies are held to address the issues that challenge many of the youth on a daily basis. Relevant topics, for the meetings, are suggested by the youth, and many are discussed in an open
forum. A key goal of these meetings is to help the youth understand the message of the Holy Bible and to develop a permanent and continuous relationship with Scripture, allowing them to implement it on a daily basis.
Rising to meet the needs of today's electronic access capabilities, the Centre has its Bible Study Lessons posted online at www.CopticCentre.com for everyone to access.
Social services that are
performed by the church
are not limited to just spiritual
activities. In addition to the regular
activities, the congregation attends trips
around the U.K. and Europe. There is also an
active choir of deacons dedicated to learning and
singing Church hymns for our various feasts and
occasions throughout the year.
Active communication with our neighbours is an important
part of our community relations efforts here in Stevenage.
The church has good repertoire with local Christian churches, government, community service groups and the District Scout Association. By being extensively involved, the church is proud to give back to a community that has given so much.
In addition, the church is also an active member of 'Churches Together in Stevenage', 'Oriental Orthodox Churches and host some of the regular meetings.
